According to reports from both Tribune Online and Daily Post Nigeria, operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a businessman named Philip Tunde, aged 38, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The arrest took place on Sunday, 27th September 2026, at the joint screening point of Terminal 2. The NDLEA discovered that Tunde had concealed 4.80 kilograms of cocaine within the soles of his shoes and railings of his travel bags. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred, as the war against drug trafficking continues to be a significant challenge in Nigeria.
According to Tribune Online, this latest seizure demonstrates the agency’s continued commitment to protecting Nigerians and other international travellers from the scourge of illicit drugs. The NDLEA has not yet revealed when the facility began operating or provided further details about its drug-interception methods.
Tunde is set to appear in court soon, and it remains to be seen what penalties he will face if found guilty. This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking in Nigeria.
