The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), one of Nigeria’s major political parties, is grappling with a deepening crisis. The latest development sees the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement (OK Movement), a significant faction within the party, rejecting attempts by the NDC to control its organisational structure.
Speaking on the matter, the National Director-General of the OK Movement, Hon John Ozyl Ughulu, stated unequivocally that the movement remains an independent political organisation and will not be subsumed under the party’s control.
This rejection comes as a response to rumours circulating within the NDC that the party intended to assert authority over the OK Movement. The move has been met with resistance from the movement, which prides itself on its autonomy and grassroots support.
According to Tribune Online’s report, this development further complicates the already tumultuous internal politics of the NDC. The party has been struggling to maintain unity amidst competing factions and power struggles, a situation that could potentially jeopardise its chances in upcoming elections.
