Amidst the whirlwind of political activities leading up to the 2027 general elections, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) faces a test of unity ahead of the inauguration of its National Campaign Council (NCC) on Monday. According to multiple sources, the party is grappling with disagreements over its relationship with the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement (OK Movement), a powerful political alliance.
The tension is palpable within the NDC, as various factions jostle for influence in the party’s campaign council.
Presidential aide Daniel Bwala has been vocal about his criticism of the NDC’s campaign council, stating that it is dominated by content creators. This sentiment was echoed by a source in the party who requested anonymity, stating that the council is ‘heavily skewed towards individuals who have been instrumental in shaping the party’s narrative rather than those with deep political experience.’
However, the OK Movement, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, has yet to formally comment on its relationship with the NDC.
The NDC’s campaign council is expected to coordinate the party’s nationwide campaign and mobilize support for its vision of a ‘new, just, and prosperous Nigeria.’ The council’s inauguration will be a significant test of the party’s ability to present a united front in the face of intense political competition.
