The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, has inaugurated a Nigeria-US Solid Minerals Committee aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the mining sector, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. The committee was established following a meeting between the Alake and a US delegation led by Dr. Michael Adewole, an adviser to the US President on African affairs.
Inaugurating the committee, the Alake emphasized the importance of the collaboration, stating that it would aid in harnessing the vast potential of Nigeria’s mineral resources for the benefit of both nations.
However, the Alake denied reports of a $700 billion asset sale to the US, stressing that the committee’s purpose was solely focused on strategic cooperation in the solid minerals sector.
According to Channels Television, the Federal Government has also inaugurated a Nigeria-US Committee on Strategic Cooperation to drive joint initiatives in various sectors, including solid minerals.
The FG’s committee was inaugurated by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who underscored the need for increased collaboration between Nigeria and the US in areas such as energy, agriculture, and infrastructure.
The inauguration of these committees underscores the commitment of both nations to foster closer ties and unlock opportunities in various sectors, particularly the solid minerals sector, which is rich in potential but underdeveloped.
