Nigeria’s Olympic Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, is said to be tracking two young central defenders from English Premier League club Liverpool, according to reports from Daily Post Nigeria. The players under the spotlight are Wellity Lucky and Noah Adekoya, both academy products of the Reds. The move comes as Chelle prepares his squad for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
According to Score Nigeria, the Malian coach is considering these talented players for the Olympic Eagles’ roster. While it remains unclear whether either player will be selected, their performances at Liverpool have caught Chelle’s eye.
Adekoya, who is also a Nigeria U-20 international, has been on loan at Fulham this season, where he has made three appearances. Lucky, on the other hand, has yet to make his first-team debut for Liverpool but has impressed at the academy level.
This development is significant as the U23 Afcon qualifiers offer a platform for young players to showcase their talent and potentially earn a spot in the senior national team. With the 2027 Olympics just over a year away, these qualifiers could play a crucial role in Nigeria’s preparations for the global event.
