Tinubu Blames Opposition for Hunger and Poverty: Atiku Responds

President Bola Tinubu has been met with criticism after blaming the opposition for the widespread hunger and poverty in Nigeria. In a recent statement, Tinubu, who has been in office for three and a half years, accused the opposition of being responsible for the nation’s current state. However, Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president and presidential candidate in the 2019 elections, has responded, calling Tinubu’s statement delusional.

In an interview with Vanguard News, Atiku said, ‘The APC governed Nigeria for eight years before you took office. You have added another three and a half years. Nigerians know who has been in power.’

Atiku’s response echoes sentiments shared by many Nigerians who have been affected by the ongoing economic challenges. The country has been grappling with rising food prices, job losses, and a weakened naira. The government has been criticized for its handling of the economy, with some accusing it of mismanagement and corruption.

Tinubu’s statement has sparked controversy, with many questioning whether it is appropriate for a president to blame the opposition for the country’s problems, especially given that he has been in power for over three years. Premium Times Nigeria reported that Tinubu made the statement while addressing a crowd in Kano, stating, ‘The opposition has been responsible for the hunger and poverty in Nigeria.’ The president did not specify which opposition parties he was referring to.

This is not the first time Tinubu has been criticized for his handling of the economy. In 2021, he was accused of prioritizing political ambitions over economic stability, with some claiming that his focus on the 2023 elections had negatively impacted the country’s economic growth.
