The Ondo State Government has taken a significant step towards honouring the life and contributions of the late Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, by setting up a 13-member committee to oversee his state burial. According to reports from Premium Times Nigeria and Tribune Online, the committee, chaired by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Kayode Ajulo, has been tasked with ensuring a befitting send-off for the centenarian. The committee’s members include several high-ranking government officials, as well as religious and traditional leaders.
Pa Fasoranti, who passed away at the age of 100, was a key figure in Nigeria’s political landscape, playing a significant role in the struggle for the actualization of the June 12, 1993, presidential election result. His death on October 4, 2026, was met with an outpouring of tributes from Nigerians and international figures alike.
The government’s commitment to ensuring that the burial reflects Mr Fasoranti’s contributions to society is commendable. The burial is expected to be a grand affair, reflecting the esteem in which the late elder statesman was held both in Ondo State and across Nigeria.
