President Bola Tinubu has ruled out any return to Nigeria’s fuel subsidy regime, while promising that transport fares will become cheaper from October 2026.
According to THISDAYLIVE, Tinubu also directed state governments to help deliver more affordable transport under the National Affordable Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Transit Programme.
The president’s position was also reported by Tribune Online, which said he dismissed suggestions that the Federal Government could reverse its decision on fuel subsidies.
A statement reported by Daily Post Nigeria said Tinubu had promised that Nigerians would pay less for transport from October. The update followed discussions on the CNG transit programme, including a meeting the president said he held with state governors on August 27.
TVC News, via Google News, reported that more Nigerians were expected to access lower transport fares from October 1.
The announcement places the CNG transport initiative at the centre of the government’s response to the pressure that higher transport costs have placed on households since the subsidy policy change.
