The Obidient Movement, the support group for presidential candidate Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has condemned in strong terms the alleged smear campaign by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, to associate Obi with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a statement made available to Vanguard News, the Obidient Movement accused Umahi of attempting to tarnish Obi’s image by linking him with the separatist group, IPOB, ahead of the January 16, 2027 election. According to the Obidient Movement, such moves are unacceptable and a clear attempt to distract voters from the real issues.
‘It is unfortunate that a public office holder like Senator Umahi would resort to such desperate measures. We urge him to focus on his duties and leave politics aside. The Nigerian electorate is intelligent enough to make informed decisions without being misled’, the statement read.
This development comes amidst growing tension between the Obidient Movement and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the upcoming elections. The Obidient Movement has been gaining momentum in recent months, with many Nigerians expressing support for Obi’s candidacy and his promise of a new Nigeria.
According to Vanguard News, Umahi has not yet responded to the allegations made by the Obidient Movement.
