A simmering tension within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s inner circle has erupted into full view, pitting Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike against a bloc of 31 APC governors. The feud, which has been brewing for months, raises questions about how President Tinubu intends to keep his disciples united as the 2027 elections approach.
According to reports from Vanguard News, Tribune Online, Daily Post Nigeria, and Punch Newspapers, the governors have been at odds with Wike over perceived betrayals and power plays within the party. Elias Odoemena, the Convener of the Igbo Union, has even accused the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) of being afraid of Wike.
Political analyst Ilyasu Gadu noted that the governors have never been accommodating towards Wike, who they believe could use his tactics to weaken and break up the APC just as he did with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Aggrieved APC leaders and members are reportedly aligning with Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, further exacerbating tensions within the party.
