In a move that could escalate political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has accused opposition parties of orchestrating staged video recordings of campaign poster destructions as a ‘propaganda stunt’ to discredit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The minister shared a video on his official social media account, showing an individual destroying APC posters and alleging that the act was premeditated. According to multiple sources, this is not the first time such incidents have been reported, with similar videos circulating on various social media platforms. However, neither the opposition parties nor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have publicly commented on these claims. The accusation comes amidst growing concerns over the credibility of the 2027 elections and the potential for widespread violence. As Nigeria gears up for another crucial election, it is crucial that all parties adhere to democratic principles and refrain from actions that could undermine the electoral process.
