In a move aimed at ensuring peaceful and fair elections, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has issued a stern warning to political parties ahead of the 2027 elections. According to THISDAYLIVE, CAN, led by its president, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, urged political parties not to use religion and ethnicity as weapons during the electioneering process.
This call comes as a preemptive measure to prevent the recurrence of past incidents where religious and ethnic sentiments were manipulated to sway voters’ decisions.
The warning was issued at the opening ceremony of CAN’s 153rd Conference in Kaduna, where Rev. Ayokunle reiterated the need for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
CAN has been a vocal advocate for peace and unity in Nigeria, especially in times of political tension. The association plays a crucial role in mobilizing Christians during elections and advocating for their rights.
This development is significant as it underscores the importance of religious and ethnic harmony in Nigeria’s democracy. It also highlights CAN’s commitment to promoting peace and fairness in the electoral process.
