As the countdown to Nigeria’s 2027 general elections hits three months, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled a world press conference to update Nigerians on preparations for the polls.
According to reports from THISDAYLIVE, INEC will provide updates at a press conference slated for Tuesday, October 6.
The announcement comes amidst criticism from political parties and other stakeholders over the electoral body’s readiness for the elections. The National Chairman of the Action Alliance (AA), Kenneth Udeze, described INEC’s planned world press conference as a ‘dangerous threat’ to the 2027 elections, while some see it as a mockery of the rule of law.
However, in a statement issued by INEC’s Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser, Adedayo Oketola, the commission stated that the press conference will be held alongside a national stakeholders meeting on the same day.
The announcement is significant as it marks a critical milestone in the electoral process, with just 100 days left until the 2027 elections.
