African investors will now have until October 27 to participate in the IPO of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, following an extension of the deadline announced on Monday, according to multiple Nigerian news outlets. The extension, aimed at broadening participation, was confirmed by the company’s owner, Aliko Dangote, the wealthiest man in Africa. The refinery, located in Lagos, is set to be Africa’s largest and aims to help reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported fuel. Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s IPO, initially scheduled to close on October 13, was first announced in August and marks a major milestone for the company. The extension could attract more African investors, as reported by Punch Newspapers and Business Post Nigeria, among others. While the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has not commented on the extension, the move is seen as a positive step towards boosting investment in the Nigerian economy. As Africa’s richest man, Dangote’s business ventures extend beyond petroleum, including cement, sugar, and flour production. However, the refinery is expected to significantly increase Nigeria’s oil production capacity and reduce its imports, contributing to the country’s energy security.
