The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been active in apprehending suspected cable vandals across the country. Recently, two such individuals were arrested in separate incidents, according to separate reports from FRCN HQ (in Abuja) and Daily Post Nigeria. In Abuja, the suspects were apprehended at the FRCN Headquarters, although the NSCDC has not said when the facility began operating. The arrest in Abuja is the second such instance this month, following an arrest at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on October 5. The arrest in Kwara State was made in the Tanke-Iledu community of Ilorin, the state capital. The NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer, ASCI Ayoola Michael Shola, identified the suspects as Nurah Abdullahi, 20, popularly known as Hartabo, and Sherif Abdullahi. The arrests highlight the ongoing issue of cable vandalism in Nigeria, which disrupts services and costs the economy significant sums. The NSCDC, established in 2003, is responsible for protecting critical national infrastructure, among other duties. The recent arrests underscore the agency’s commitment to combating cable vandalism and protecting the nation’s infrastructure.
