In a push to advance artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities across the continent, Nigeria has advocated for shared AI computing infrastructure among African nations. This call was made as the country grapples with electricity and connectivity issues that hinder the growth of AI development, according to a report by Business Post Nigeria.
The need for shared AI infrastructure among African nations was underscored by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami. The Minister highlighted that electricity and connectivity remain significant constraints to AI development in Nigeria.
According to a report by THISDAYLIVE, Pantami’s call comes amidst an estimated $850 million reliance on cloud infrastructure by Nigerian businesses, highlighting the potential benefits of collaborative AI efforts.
