The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has commenced investigations into seven prominent Nigerians, including the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and former Senate Presidents Bukola Saraki and David Mark, over undeclared offshore assets exposed in the Panama Papers and Pandora Papers. According to Premium Times, the other individuals under probe are a former Minister, James Ibori, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, and a businessman, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal. The allegations against these individuals stem from the leaked financial records known as the Panama Papers and the Pandora Papers, which expose offshore holdings by politicians, business leaders, and other high-profile individuals worldwide. The CCB’s move to probe these individuals follows a similar investigation into former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who was also exposed in the Panama Papers. It remains unclear when the CCB began investigating these individuals, and the bureau has not commented on the matter. This development comes as Nigerians gear up for the 2027 elections, with Peter Obi being a prominent contender for the presidency.
