Nigerian Education Loan Fund Cracks Down on Double-Dipping Students

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has taken a step to curb a common practice known as ‘double-dipping’ among students. According to reports from multiple sources, the fund aims to prevent students from benefiting from its loan scheme while their parents are also paying their school fees. This move, according to a NELFUND official, is in response to the growing number of students who are taking loans from the fund while also putting pressure on their parents to pay their school fees. This official was quoted by both Punch Newspapers and Vanguard News as saying, ‘This comment is based on our recognition that there are so many students out there who are double-dipping. They are taking from the NELFUND and still stressing their parents.’ The impact of this decision could significantly reduce the financial burden on many Nigerian parents and provide a more equitable distribution of financial aid to students in need. It’s a positive step towards ensuring a fairer education system in Nigeria.
