Representatives Propose Road Concession and Toll Gates to Address Nigeria’s Infrastructure Deficit

In a bid to address Nigeria’s extensive infrastructure deficit, the House of Representatives has proposed a road concession and toll gate system, according to Premium Times Nigeria. The lawmaker, who spoke on the matter, pointed out that the current approach of relying on annual budgetary allocations for road maintenance and rehabilitation has not consistently delivered the required level of infrastructure renewal. The proposed concession and toll gates are intended to address this issue, although the exact details of the plan are yet to be disclosed. This development comes amidst growing concerns over the state of Nigeria’s road network, particularly during the rainy season when many roads become impassable. The impact of this infrastructure deficit is felt daily by commuters and businesses alike, as travel times increase and goods are delayed or damaged. This proposal, if implemented, could potentially improve the situation, but it remains to be seen how it will be executed and whether it will be effective in the long term. The House of Representatives is yet to release further details about the proposed plan.
