Stakeholders Call for Stronger Action Against GBV in Nigeria

In a recent development, stakeholders have called for stronger coordination and action against gender-based violence (GBV) in Nigeria. The call was made during a meeting convened to discuss the rising cases of GBV in the country. According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria, the stakeholders emphasized the need for a more coordinated approach to tackle GBV effectively. They noted that the current response to GBV cases has been fragmented, with various agencies and organizations working independently, leading to inefficiencies and gaps in service delivery. The stakeholders argued that a more coordinated approach would enable a more effective response, ensuring that no victim is left behind. It is crucial to note that GBV is a pervasive issue in Nigeria, with the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reporting over 30,000 cases of sexual violence in 2020 alone. The Nigerian government has been under pressure to address this issue, with numerous advocacy groups and international organizations calling for action. The call for stronger coordination and action against GBV is a step in the right direction, and it remains to be seen how the government and relevant stakeholders will respond.
