NDC Calls for Removal of Deceased Nigerians from Voters’ Register
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the names of deceased Nigerians from the voters’ register ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to a report by Vanguard News, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the names of deceased Nigerians are removed from the voters’ register before the 2027 general elections. This move is aimed at preventing double voting and maintaining the integrity of the electoral process. The NDC’s call comes amidst concerns over the accuracy and authenticity of the voter register, with some raising questions about the inclusion of deceased individuals.
The INEC has not yet commented on the NDC’s request, but the electoral body has in the past emphasized the importance of maintaining an accurate and up-to-date voters’ register. In 2025, INEC initiated a nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to update the voters’ register and ensure that only eligible voters are able to cast their ballots.
The removal of deceased Nigerians from the voters’ register is significant as it addresses one of the key issues that could potentially undermine the integrity of the electoral process. By ensuring that only living individuals are registered to vote, the electoral body can help prevent fraud and maintain the credibility of the election results.
