Tijjani Kaura Declared Winner of Zamfara APC Senatorial Primary Amid Violence
Tijjani Kaura, a contender for the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial seat in Zamfara North, has been declared the winner of a rerun primary following violent incidents at polling stations.

In a highly contentious election process, Tijjani Kaura has been declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Zamfara North. The election, which took place amidst violent incidents at various polling stations, has been marred by allegations of vote-rigging and intimidation. According to Premium Times Nigeria, the elections were held in a tense atmosphere, with reports of ballot-box snatching and voters being turned away from polling stations.
The election results, announced on Thursday, November 3, put Tijjani Kaura ahead of his closest competitor, Yusuf Buratai. However, the validity of the election results is yet to be confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The violent incidents during the election have sparked condemnation from various quarters, including the Zamfara state chapter of the APC. The party’s publicity secretary, Yusuf Gusau, has called for an investigation into the incidents and the conduct of security agencies during the election.
The senatorial seat for Zamfara North has been vacant since the death of the incumbent, Senator Kabir Marafa, in May this year. Kaura’s victory in the primary brings him one step closer to filling the vacancy, but the legitimacy of the election results remains a subject of controversy.
