Nigerians in Northern England Call for Regular Passport Services

The Nigerian Community in Greater Manchester (NCGM) has called on the Nigerian government to establish regular passport and consular services in Northern England following the remarkable response to Nigerian events.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Nigerian Community in Greater Manchester (NCGM) expressed concerns over the long waiting periods for passport and consular services, which they claim are affecting the community’s ability to participate in Nigerian events and maintain connections with Nigeria. According to THISDAYLIVE, the NCGM’s call comes as the number of Nigerians living in the North of England continues to grow, driven by factors such as job opportunities and family ties. The NCGM also highlighted the importance of regular consular services for addressing issues such as travel document renewals, passport losses, and legal matters. While the Nigerian High Commission in London provides passport and consular services, the NCGM argues that the distance and travel costs make it difficult for many members of the community to access these services. The call for regular passport and consular services in Northern England is not a new demand, with similar calls being made in the past. However, the growing Nigerian population in the North of England and the increasing number of Nigerian events in the region may have strengthened the need for such services. The Nigerian government has not yet responded to the NCGM’s call.
