Nigeria Boasts 160 Operational CNG Stations with $2.6bn Investment
A high-ranking official has revealed that Nigeria now has 160 operational Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations, attracting approximately $2.6 billion in private-sector investments.

According to reports from Premium Times Nigeria, Nigeria has recorded a significant milestone in the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) sector. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr Ahmed, disclosed that the country now boasts 160 operational CNG stations, attracting approximately $2.6 billion in private-sector investments in less than two years. This development marks a crucial step towards reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products and fostering a more sustainable energy future. The minister did not specify when the CNG facilities began operating, but the rapid growth in investment suggests a growing interest in this sector.
The CNG initiative, launched in 2024, aims to convert over 700,000 vehicles to run on CNG by 2030. The transition to CNG is expected to reduce emissions, promote energy security, and lower costs for consumers. The success of this initiative could serve as a model for other African countries seeking to improve their energy infrastructure and promote sustainable growth.
