An Abuja court has sentenced a Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) official to seven years imprisonment for defrauding a land buyer. According to Premium Times Nigeria, the official was found guilty of fraudulent practices involving the sale of a plot of land in Maitama, a highbrow area of Abuja. The report states that the official, whose identity was not disclosed, defrauded the buyer of over N100 million (approximately $205,238). The court ruling is significant as it underscores the government’s commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring justice for victims. This is not the first time an FCDA official has been arrested and charged for corruption-related offenses. In 2020, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Muhammad Bello, directed the agency to sack any official found involved in corrupt practices. The case serves as a warning to other officials who may be involved in similar activities. The FCDA has not yet commented on the matter.
