Nigeria’s political landscape is set abuzz as the 2027 Presidential elections approach. One of the front-runners, Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President and the current candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has made a significant promise to Nigerians. In an attempt to distinguish himself from his competitors, Atiku has pledged to reduce the economic burden on citizens by addressing key cost pressures related to petrol, transportation, food, and other essential goods. This commitment comes as a response to criticisms levelled against the Tinubu administration’s handling of these issues, particularly the controversial petrol subsidy policy. According to reports from Tribune Online and Punch Newspapers, Atiku sympathised with Nigerians over the high costs they face daily and vowed to address these challenges if elected in 2027. It remains unclear how exactly Atiku plans to implement this promise, but his pledge is a clear indication of his focus on alleviating the economic pressures faced by millions of Nigerians.
