Mambilla Saga: Unraveling Buhari’s Decision to Reject Compensation for Leno Adesanya

In a surprising turn of events, President Buhari has maintained his stance against compensating Leno Adesanya’s Sunrise company for the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project, despite mounting pressure from some of his aides. This decision came following the International Criminal Court (ICC) tribunal ruling in Paris, which saw Sunrise and Leno Adesanya lose their case against the Nigerian government.

According to Premium Times Nigeria, Buhari was not convinced that the payment of USD 200 million as demanded by Sunrise was warranted. The Mambilla project, a key infrastructure initiative aimed at boosting the country’s power supply, has been mired in controversy and allegations of corruption.

The outcome of this legal battle serves to highlight the ongoing challenges faced in Nigeria’s quest for sustainable development and accountable governance. As the nation moves forward, it remains crucial that such cases are handled with transparency and integrity to foster public trust and ensure the success of vital projects like the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project.
