In a recent development, Nigerians are expressing outrage over the death of 37 illegal miners in custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC). According to Business News Nigeria, this incident occurred in Minna, the capital of Niger state.

The miners were reportedly detained by the NSCDC for illegally mining gold without authorization. However, they were found dead under mysterious circumstances, sparking public anger and calls for accountability.

In response to this tragedy, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced the constitution of an investigative panel to probe the deaths. This panel includes notable personalities such as Ciroma and Deji Adeyanju. The NSCDC has also suspended 20 officers in connection with the incident.

This is not the first time that illegal miners have faced tragedy in Niger state. In previous incidents, miners have been buried alive or died due to accidents while working in dangerous conditions. These incidents highlight the need for better regulation and safety measures in the mining industry.
