The Federal Government has confirmed one case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to multiple news outlets. The patient, who reportedly arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda, was admitted to a private hospital in the FCT. The case was laboratory-confirmed on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the Coordinating Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, told reporters. The government has begun contact tracing to identify and monitor 44 close contacts of the patient, as a precautionary measure to prevent further spread. The government is urging the public to remain calm and follow health advisories to avoid the spread of the disease. The last Ebola outbreak in Nigeria occurred in 2014, and was successfully contained. This latest development is a reminder of the importance of maintaining strong public health systems and border controls to protect Nigerians from imported diseases.
