In a notable suggestion aimed at averting potential post-election crises in 2027, the founding National Secretary of Alliance for Democracy, Professor Udenta O. Udenta, has proposed an 18-month Government of National Unity (GNU) comprising Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi. During an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ on Monday, Professor Udenta emphasized that elections alone do not build trust or guarantee stability, and questioned what unites Nigerians if not a collaborative government after the elections. According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria, Professor Udenta made this proposal amidst the ongoing campaigns and political tensions leading up to the 2027 elections. However, it remains unclear whether Tinubu, Atiku, and Peter Obi have expressed interest or agreed to this proposal. The RMRDC DG, who also urged Peter Obi to drop his 2027 presidential ambition and support Tinubu’s re-election, may have indirectly supported this idea. Although this proposal is not yet a formal agreement, it presents an interesting perspective for post-election unity in Nigeria.
