Court of Appeal Delays Hearing on SERAP’s N100m Defamation Appeal Against DSS

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has yet to fix a date for the hearing of an appeal filed by the Socio-economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) against a N100 million defamation judgment in favour of two operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS). According to reports from Vanguard News, Premium Times Nigeria, and THISDAYLIVE, the presiding justice of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal is set to determine a fresh hearing date for both appeals and communicate it to the parties. However, the panel has returned the case files to the presiding justice Alex Enumah in Abuja for reassignment due to procedural complications. The appeals arise from a 2025 defamation judgment in favour of the DSS operatives. The development is significant as it highlights the ongoing legal battle between SERAP and the DSS. This battle underscores the need for transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s security services.
