2027 Presidential Race: North-West Aims for Six Million Votes for Hashim

The Hashim Progressive Movement (HPM) has set an ambitious target of six million votes for Accord Party’s presidential candidate, Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, across Nigeria’s North-West region in the 2027 general election. According to the Vanguard News, Hon. Aminu Aminu, HPM coordinator and Accord’s senatorial candidate for Jigawa Central, announced the target, saying the movement was mobilising supporters across the region. This is a significant stride for Hashim’s campaign, especially considering the region’s political influence. The North-West, made up of seven states, has consistently been a stronghold for the All Progressives Congress (APC), raising questions about whether the HPM can challenge the incumbent party’s dominance. However, the HPM’s optimism could be attributed to the growing discontent among some sections of the electorate with the APC’s performance, providing an opportunity for alternative parties like the Accord Party. The HPM’s target underscores the importance of the North-West in the 2027 presidential race, and it will be interesting to see how the region’s political dynamics unfold in the lead-up to the election.
