President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of two service chiefs by 18 months, according to multiple sources. The affected individuals are Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, and Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service. The approval was announced in separate statements issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday night. According to Premium Times Nigeria, Mr. Nwakuche’s tenure will now end on 26 May 2028, while Ms. Nandap’s tenure will end on 30 June 2028. The move comes amid growing calls for the restructuring of the country’s security apparatus. It remains unclear whether this decision marks a broader shakeup or is a targeted extension for these specific individuals. This development is significant as it raises questions about the government’s approach to national security and its commitment to addressing long-standing challenges within the security sector.
