In a statement presented at a press conference at the Nigerian Union of Journalists’ Plateau State Chapter, the Coalition of Plateau Indigenous Youth Bodies denounced a petition from the Fulani Community Development Association (FCDA) alleging discriminatory practices and human rights abuses by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Mobile Police during security operations in Plateau state. The youth coalition contends that the FCDA’s allegations are unfounded and that the security forces are merely targeting criminal elements responsible for widespread insecurity in the region. According to the Daily Post Nigeria, the youths called on the Federal Government to continue the ongoing operations against these criminal elements to ensure the safety and security of all Plateau residents. This stance by the Plateau youths is significant as it comes amidst growing concerns over the potential bias in security operations against Fulani communities in the state. The NUJ Plateau Chapter, in its support of the youth coalition, has pledged to continue monitoring the situation and reporting objectively on the ongoing security operations. The Nigerian Government has not yet responded to the youths’ statement.
