IGP Disu Proposes Doubling Gratuity for Retired Police Officers

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has proposed a 200% increase in gratuity for retired police personnel as part of efforts to address longstanding pension challenges in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). According to the Tribune Online, this move aims to improve the welfare of retired officers who have faced challenges with pension payments for years. The proposal is yet to be confirmed by the NPF or the federal government. Despite the proposed increase, it remains unclear how this would address the systemic issues plaguing the police pension system. This development follows a series of calls for improved welfare for police officers, particularly in the wake of the ongoing security challenges in the country.
