The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has heightened health measures for international travellers arriving in Nigeria, following the recent outbreak of Ebola in neighbouring countries. According to Premium Times Nigeria, the NCDC has sent advisories to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), with further instructions expected to guide implementation in collaboration with airlines. The move is aimed at strengthening health surveillance and preventing the potential importation of the virus into the country. It is important to note that the Ebola virus remains a significant public health threat, particularly in West Africa, where Guinea and the Democratic Republic of Congo have reported cases in the past few months. The expanded health declaration requirement for international travellers is a proactive measure by the NCDC to safeguard the health of Nigerians and maintain the country’s disease-free status. This development underscores the importance of vigilance and preparedness in the face of infectious diseases, especially those with the potential to cause widespread panic and disruption. The NCDC has not said when the facility began operating, but the expanded health measures are expected to be fully implemented in the coming weeks.
