Nigeria’s Education Loan Fund Introduces Token System to Eliminate Double Fees

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has taken a significant step towards streamlining school fee payments by introducing a novel token system. This move, aimed at preventing students from paying school fees twice and eradicating refund complications, was announced on Thursday by the fund’s Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr. According to reports, the new system works by issuing students unique tokens upon payment, which they can present at their respective schools to verify that the fees have been paid. This innovative approach, Sawyerr explained during a briefing with journalists, will not only reduce instances of double payments but also streamline the refund process for students who may withdraw from schools before the academic year is over. This development is likely to be welcomed by Nigerian parents and students, who have long faced the frustrations of paying school fees multiple times due to inefficient systems and bureaucratic delays. The NELFUND’s new token system is expected to bring much-needed transparency and efficiency to the education financing system in Nigeria. The new system has been introduced following numerous complaints from students and parents about the complexities and uncertainties surrounding school fee payments, especially with the increasing number of students taking loans from the fund. With this system, students and parents can now breathe a sigh of relief, as they can be sure their payments are being processed correctly and without any potential for double payments.
