The HEDA Resource Centre, an antigraft organization, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI) over allegations of spending N683.8 million on projects outside its mandate. According to reports by Punch Newspapers, HEDA raised concerns that the institute, which is responsible for research and development in the field of food storage, had diverted funds to other activities. The group urged the EFCC to probe the matter to ensure accountability and transparency in public spending. The EFCC has not yet responded to the call. The allegations come amidst growing concerns over corruption and mismanagement of public funds in Nigeria. With the 2023 elections approaching, there is increased pressure on public institutions to demonstrate accountability and good governance. The HEDA Resource Centre, established in 2007, has been at the forefront of advocating for transparency and accountability in public affairs in Nigeria.
