A group of Nigerian students, funded by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PAP), have emerged as the top-performing students at various universities in the United Kingdom, according to a report by The Whistler Newspaper. The students, who are enrolled in petroleum engineering, geophysics, and other oil and gas-related courses, were recognised for their academic excellence at an award ceremony held in London.

The PAP, which was established by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), provides scholarships and grants to Nigerian students pursuing oil and gas-related courses in tertiary institutions both in Nigeria and abroad. According to NNPC, the fund has been in operation since 2010, but it has not said when the facility began operating in the UK.

This is not the first time Nigerian students have excelled academically on the global stage. In 2019, Nigerian students won the first, second, and third prizes in the Shell LiveWIRE Top Ten Innovative Entrepreneurs competition, which is open to students across the world.
