Still Waiting: Over 116,000 New Voters in Lagos Await PVC Collection

As the 2027 elections approach, many newly registered voters in Lagos State are yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

With less than a year until the 2027 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has revealed that over 116,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) of newly registered voters are yet to be collected. According to reports from multiple sources, including Punch Newspapers, Daily Post Nigeria, and Vanguard News, the Administrative Secretary of INEC in Lagos, Mrs Adenike Tadese, made this known in an interview with newsmen on Friday. Tadese emphasized that the commission had received a total of 384,078 applications for voter registration in Lagos State, out of which 267,333 had been processed, and 327,333 PVCs had been distributed. However, 116,745 PVCs remain uncollected. The exact reasons for the delay in PVC collection are unclear, with INEC not providing further details. This development has sparked concern among the affected voters, who now face the possibility of being unable to exercise their democratic rights in the upcoming elections. The situation underscores the importance of timely PVC collection, as it ensures that voters can participate in the electoral process. The 2027 elections are expected to be closely contested, with many political parties vying for power. It is crucial for all eligible voters to have their PVCs in order to have their voices heard and contribute to the democratic process.
