A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to replace Ibrahim Lukman with Olumuyiwa Owadara as the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency. According to Punch Newspapers, the court’s decision was made on Thursday, October 28th. The development comes after a primary election dispute between Lukman and Olumuyiwa Owadara, who claimed he was unfairly denied the party’s ticket. The court’s ruling is expected to have significant implications for the 2027 general elections in Nigeria. It underscores the importance of fairness and adherence to electoral rules in political parties’ internal processes. This is not the first time such a court order has been issued. In 2026, a Federal High Court in Edo State sacked an NDC candidate for the Oredo Federal Constituency, declaring another candidate the authentic one. The ruling was welcomed by an NDC group in Abia who commended INEC for its firmness in defending the Electoral Act, following a Supreme Court verdict on party membership and primaries.
