House Demands INEC Chairman’s Explanation on 2027 Elections Readiness Within Seven Days

The House of Representatives has given the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) a seven-day ultimatum to explain its readiness for the 2027 general elections. According to THISDAYLIVE, the directive was issued during a meeting with the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan, before the Committee on Electoral Matters. The House’s demand for an explanation follows concerns about the Commission’s preparedness for the elections. However, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expressed confidence in INEC’s ability to conduct the elections without delay, as reported by Vanguard News. The SDP leadership believes there are no reasons to fear that the Commission will postpone the elections. The House’s decision and the SDP’s confidence in INEC highlight the ongoing discussions about the readiness of Nigeria’s electoral body for the upcoming elections.
