Tinubu: Monthly Pensions for Retirees Not a Favour

In a departure from traditional rhetoric, President Bola Tinubu has asserted that the monthly pension payments to retirees are not a favour, but rather a wage owed to them. This statement was made during the unveiling of the Pension Care Fund (PenCare) in Abuja on Thursday. The President, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, emphasized that pensions are wages that the government is obligated to pay to its retired employees.

According to Daily Post Nigeria, the event aimed at promoting the development of pension funds in the country.

This shift in perspective from Tinubu may signify a new approach to pension benefits for Nigeria’s retirees.
