A deepening crisis within the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State has seen the party’s representative candidate challenging his replacement by a close aide of the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
The crisis began after Baffa Suleiman deposed to an affidavit claiming he—and not Zakari Alhaji-Sidi—won the primary election conducted on 25 May 2025. Suleiman’s claim comes following the announcement of Alhaji-Sidi as the ADC’s candidate for the forthcoming elections.
Suleiman’s lawyer, Yusuf Ali, confirmed that an application challenging Alhaji-Sidi’s candidacy had been filed at the Jigawa State High Court. Ali added that the case would be heard on 20 October 2026.
According to Premium Times, ADC’s national chairman, Yabagi Sani, has been unreachable for comments on the matter. However, in previous interviews, Sani has expressed concerns about the internal crisis affecting the party in Jigawa State.
The development is significant as the ADC aims to make inroads in the upcoming elections. However, the internal strife could potentially hamper the party’s chances, especially in a competitive electoral landscape.
